    I found this one in my archives and have no idea why I did not post it when I did it. I have painted this old relic a few times, one image I put in my watercolor book as a step by step demo, very similar to this painting..

    I revamped this older watercolor I had done a while ago. I did not want to toss it out, hoping I cold retrieve it somehow when I had the time. Yesterday I worked on it again, I think I am happier with it now.

    LITTLE FRENCH TUMBLE was one of the quick demos I did on my recent France trip and workshop.
    The scene is inspired by the gorgeous area of Castelfranc, a small village not far from Le Vieux Couvent.
    The demo was about moving water, which I did back in the studio after spying this scene on my walk... and I did another in watercolor of still water which will be posted later.
    I wanted the students to just play with the concept of movement, and let the watercolor make the statement. It's not always necessary to copy a scene verbatim, I like to give my impression of the scene and work a lot...

    This journal entry was done as a demo for the recent group in France 2018.
    I decided to tint the journal page first with an orange acrylic wash, in readiness for my entry.
    After I tinted the page and it was dry, I drew in my subject.I then used watercolors to get the bulk of the scene situated.
    When that had dried, I used watercolor and white gouache mixes, to get my highlights and some middle valued.The orange helps a great deal to give the scene some 'punch' .. I could very well have used a magenta or a blue as my first wash of acrylic, that would have changed the drama effect of the...

    Finally finished this one.. Pastel on red Sennelier paper.
    I am a part of a pastel presentation for Austin Pastel Society on Sunday 28th October at Precision Camera in Austin. Please come along if you want to see a fun demonstration by 5 artists.
